More Sunshine = More Cycling

With glorious sushine again I was out on the bike early. 3 hours 26 minutes, 95km and I now have a proper cyclists suntan.

Total training this week was just under 10 hours and a little over 300km of cycling. Legs are feeling very good. The rest of Saturday and Sunday will be rest and then Monday will be active recovery before the next hard session on Tuesday.

Best of luck to Jonny 'Coastal Controller' at Ironman Nice this weekend. Race well buddy.

good training mate. I can't remember when I last did a long ride. You reckon I need to get some long sessions in before the Vit? Some French Alp rides coming up in July but probably nothing over 2.5 hours.

I'm sure a few 2.5 hour rides in the Alps will be great prep for the Vit. The bike leg at the Vit is only 84km so relatively short and it's not exactly a tough bike leg.

And if you were trying to make me jealous that you're off cycling in the Alps in July, it worked! :-)

It'll be us next year though :-)and Sags what you get in the Alps more than makes up for what you think you are missing here - and trust me you aren't missing anything given your commute, especially knowing what effort level you'll be riding that!

TM, I will update my blog later, but in sum; swim v.v.brutal, carnage, much worse than Germany but similar time, ride went well initially, then came down with cripling Illiotibbial Band pain in my left knee - dont think an hour and a half of 8%up on a 39-27 did it much good. Not had pain there for 2years, why Sunday?? This meant that I couldn't put any power down through my left leg, and even on the flats, with no wind, down on the bars, I was not pushing more than 16-17mph. If it had been a Sunday ride I would have called for a lift home. Took 5x400 Ibrufen to get round :/ Bike much slower than planned. Winner went round in 4.45!!!! Not bad for 112 miles! Saw a couple of crashes; incredible to ride on closed roads in the Alps, fearless descending required! Saw 3 guys taken to hospital, one carbon frame snapped completly in half (both tubes broken) and owner with no skin on back or side, one front wheel with a 90 degree fold, carnage on the run, looking at the website looks like around 200 DNFs. People collapsing on the run etc etc. Despite poor end to bike started v. well and was planning on beating Germany time. Felt strong and was holding my own. Run was slow start but a really strong finish, getting faster towards the end, rather than the other way round. Thanks for all of your help and advice over the last 12 months, I'm going to go and buy a compact! Call you Thurs.
