Fitness Test

Pre-deployment fitness test today and it was time for another PB - 12.6. Well happy with that Only light blue but in 3 weeks time I reach the grand old age of 45 and it would be deep blue. Press ups and sit ups were both deep blue as well so I guess I'm in pretty good shape for my age.

So here's a question for you - is there any relationship between your MSFT score and how fast you can run a 10k race? ie if I can reach 12.6 on the MSFT should I be able run 10k faster than 43 minutes?

Absolutely no relationship. I'm light blue through and only managed a 12 the other day but can run a 38 minute 10k. When I was hitting 14 I could only run a 45.

Everyones different AR hits 14-15 in his tests and he is a little quicker than me on the runs

Agree. No comparison possible. I always finish the MSFT because I can't turn quick enough but I could run faster and longer. I have to do my test soon and am shooting for.......whatever Bally did last year plus one shuttle (not that we are competitive)!

Turbo,
I always bin out at around the 13.5 - 14 due to the fact that its the most boring thing in the world to do. Would probably go further if I had someone to run with but at fatingdales it aint going to happen! however for the comparison I run a 34 min 10k.

I was curious because the PTIs have a table that turns your MSFT result into a VO2 Max figure, and I was wondering whether this could be related to 10k pace. It would appear not so I can relax knowing that people won't be saying "you can do 12.6 on the MSFT so just HTFU and run faster".

Sags - I think Bally did 14.5.

Ok! 14.6 it is then!

Yes. Research gave us the 'PTI charts' giving a VO2 Max for each bleep test level. In the same way, you could extrapolate a theoretical VO2 max from a 10 k time, again based on previous research recording lots of people doing both.

So, by comparing the 2, you could compare bleep test scores with 10 k time. But you'd have to take in to account the variables such as terrain, wind, who you're racing against. And it wouldn't be spot on for everyone but based on an average - obviously running for 14 mins in a hall isn't the same as 34 mins on a road and everyone will react slightly differently.

HTFU and run faster.

PS 12.6? Dangit! I have to get 15.4 to get in the dark blue :o(

And there's no chance I'll ever get dark blue in press ups and run at the same time.

Respect, older dude.
